At New Waltham Academy, we believe that every child should feel happy, safe and valued, and understand the important role they play within our school community. Our approach to behaviour reflects our school motto:

Our Restorative Approach
We take a restorative approach to behaviour, helping children to understand that their choices and actions can affect themselves and others. Rather than simply focusing on consequences, we encourage pupils to reflect on what has happened, understand the impact of their behaviour and consider how they can make things right.
At the beginning of the school year, each class works collaboratively to create their own Class Charter. Together, pupils and staff discuss what positive behaviour looks and feels like in their classroom and agree how everyone can contribute to a happy, respectful and successful learning environment.
When behaviour falls below the expectations agreed within the Class Charter, we focus on repairing and restoring relationships. Each class agrees a range of ‘Fix Its’ – positive actions that can help to repair any harm or disruption that may have been caused. Children are involved in deciding which ‘Fix It’ is appropriate, encouraging them to take responsibility for their actions and helping them develop important skills such as empathy, reflection and problem-solving.
Celebrating Positive Choices and Achievement
We believe it is just as important to recognise and celebrate the positive choices our pupils make every day.
Throughout the school year, children have the opportunity to earn three special stars linked to our school motto:

These awards recognise pupils who demonstrate the values and positive behaviours that make New Waltham Academy a wonderful place to learn and grow.
Once a pupil has earned all three stars, they can work towards our prestigious Ambassador Badge. Becoming a New Waltham Academy Ambassador is a special achievement and recognises pupils who consistently demonstrate our values, act as positive role models and make an outstanding contribution to our school community.
Celebrating Success
Children also have the opportunity to earn a special place in our Golden Book. Being recognised in the Golden Book is a source of immense pride for our pupils and celebrates a wide range of achievements. This might include producing exceptional work, demonstrating our school values, showing outstanding personal qualities or making a particularly positive contribution to school life.
Our House Teams
Every child at New Waltham Academy belongs to one of our four House Teams:

Throughout the year, children work together as part of their House Team to earn points, encouraging a strong sense of teamwork, belonging and friendly competition.
House Points are collected each week, with every contribution helping towards the success of the whole team. Children also have opportunities to represent their House and earn points through our exciting termly House events, including our Talent Show, Spelling Bee and Sports Day.
Our House system encourages children to support one another, celebrate each other's successes and understand that every individual contribution can make a difference.
